Trainer Eligibility

When horses are uploaded into TOM, you must choose to upload them to a primary league.

Within each league, there are four classes of races:

  • Inter-league
  • Open
  • Restricted
  • Banded

Inter-league races are open to horses from both the UKRA and the USRA who meet the age, sex and any handicap criteria (see the next section on horse eligibility for more information).

Open races are open to all horses in a single league (UKRA, USRA or NHC) that meet the horse eligibility criteria.

Restricted races are open to most trainers with the exception of the top trainers in each league.  Eligibility is based on number of wins in that league during the current season - if you have less wins than the limit, you are eligible for restricted races.  The limit for restricted races is reassessed by SOPL admin at the start of each week.

Donate and Draft Horses are only eligible for any Restricted Races, if the trainer is eligible for Banded Races.

Banded races are targetted at those trainers who have yet to have experienced a lot of success.  Eligibility is based on number of wins in that league during the current season - if you have less wins than the limit, you are eligible for banded  races.  The limit for banded races is reassessed by SOPL admin at the start of each week.  These are usually 0-65 handicaps, but the week immediately after an upload window, they are run as Maidens.

Donate and Draft Horses are ineligible for any Banded racing.

Note that if you are eligible for banded races, you will be eligible for restricted races.  The reverse does not apply.

Maximum Entries per Race

Note that there is also a maximum number of entries per trainer per race.  In almost all cases, the maximum number of entries is one horse per stable (trainer) per race.
